A lot has changed in 75 years but one thing is constant, Barbizon has been shaping lives for the better since 1939 - all while staying on top of the ever-changing modeling and acting industry.

  • 1939: Barbizon founded by Helen Fraizer
    1939: The Wizard of Oz debuts

    The Barbizon School opens on 5th Avenue,New York City
  • 1945: World War II ends
    1947: Dior introduces "The New Look"

    1940

    Barbizon begins offering high fashion and print modeling classes
  • 1953: Color Television developed
    1955: Disneyland opens in California
    1959: Mattel introduces the Barbie doll

  • 1962: Lou Appignani purchases Barbizon from the Fraziers
    1968: Barbizon franchises begin and expand nationwide into local markets

    “Be a Model or Just Look Like One” is trademarked as Barbizon’s tagline
  • 1975: Microwave Ovens are introduced
    1979: Nickelodeon Channel debuts

    Barbizon continues to expand
